Squash

Two game partners, two rockets, one pitch, one ball: no, it’s not tennis, but another rocket sport, less known in Romania, but equally dynamic – squash! Acquiring notoriety and more and more fans in recent years, squash is a sport that emerged in the early 20th century in Pakistan, where children played on the streets by hitting the ball against a wall. Today, squash has gradually begun to detract traditional sports such as football or swimming and is already on the list of Olympic sports.

This game requires a considerable amount of energy because it is a fast sport, so we recommend that you do not force yourself, especially if you have never played or have sustained physical effort for a long time. Complex, strenuous, enthusiastic, squash is a sport in which you must always be careful, anticipate the next move of your opponent and throw the ball back in an unexpected way to win the point, the set and then the match.

The Basic Rules of Squash

Although in terms of structure it resembles tennis, squash also has some elements that distinguish it from other rocket sports.

First, squash training requires the muscles a certain degree of effort that is different to tennis effort, emphasizing backhand (rever) strokes. The slag is completely missing, and the speed of the ball is higher than in tennis, which makes the squash game much more intense. The terrain consists of four walls, each player being in the middle of the field, and within the serving service, the ball must strike the front wall over the marker.

Reported to a ranking of sports in terms of calories burned, squash involves the highest calorie consumption rate (nearly 1000 calories / hour), and to cope with the intense anaerobic effort that squash matches involve, you need physical strength, strength and discipline. Three quarters of squash correspond to 8 km of running or 2 hours of playing tennis without break.

Facts

1.The type of ball used in a squash game indicates the player’s level of play. Thus, advanced players use yellow balls with lower-mobility, while beginner players use red or blue balls, characterized by a higher degree of elasticity, so that players have more time to reach them.

2.In a squash match you have to move almost all the time, so the ligaments and joints can get injured due to the pressure of the increased blood circulation. In this sense, the equipment is extremely important in the squash game. To avoid ankle injuries, it is advisable to choose a pair of squash shoes that offer side protection and protect your wrists with orthotics.
